Dear Editor,
Congratulations to the T-C for throwing their support behind the call for a public hearing on the WFP lands in “Hearings a must on land rezoning.6/06/08” That segment of the public that thinks twenty years ahead, understands the social and environmental impacts of subdivisions around Jordan River are bigger than Victoria. (You think the Colwood Crawl is bad now?) Those members of the public with vision understand that building commuter suburbs at a time of skyrocketing fuel prices is folly. Those that understand climate change know that converting forest land to suburbs exacerbates an already calamitous situation. The public understands that Coleman’s arguments for WFP’s TFL land removal are spurious. (I’m surprised he can keep a straight face when he argues in favour of WFP’s bottom line as if it is good for the public. Their bottom line was healthy enough to donate $44,000 to the Liberals for the 2005 election)
This land removal from forest to subdivision is contrary to all of the Premier’s green speak and yet he lets his Minister twist in the wind on this one. I guess it’s always easier to let the PR people spin the public’s perception of the Premier being green than for the Premier to actually be green.
Yours truly,
Jim Pine
